Why Sandy Cats?

In 2020 the owner tied the most popular kinetic ropes to a tree and pulled each one to its capacity, over and over. One rope held up better than most, so he went to the factory that made it, the same one that makes climbing rope for militaries and rescue teams, and made it better: colored nylon 6.6 with reflective strands you can see at night, and a tight sheath that stretches with the core instead of cooking it. He's spent about eight years on the LA County Sheriff's mountain search and rescue team, where gear that fails gets someone hurt, and everything we sell is held to that standard: independently tested in California, production dates on the tags, a published service life, and a lifetime warranty. And it's priced so the dad driving home from a remote jobsite can afford to carry it too. The original test video is still on our YouTube channel.

Does Sandy Cats test its products?

Yes! We rigorously test all our products. Our team conducts extreme real-world recovery tests, which you can see on our Instagram @SandyCatsGear. Additionally, all Sandy Cats ropes and shackles are CERTEX-tested in California to meet industry safety standards.

What is the difference between a Kinetic Recovery Rope and a Tow Strap?

A tow strap provides a static pull with no stretch, best for slow, controlled towing. A kinetic recovery rope stretches under tension, storing energy and releasing it smoothly to pull a stuck vehicle free without the harsh jolts of a static strap.

20' or 30' Kinetic Recovery Rope?

A 30' rope offers more working space for safer, smoother extractions. A 20' rope is better for tight spaces and controlled pulls. We generally recommend 30' ropes, as extra distance helps prevent the recovery vehicle from getting stuck. If you choose a 20' rope, consider adding a 10' bridle for versatility and added reach.

What size kinetic rope do I need?

Go by your vehicle's loaded weight, and the size should always be matched to the vehicle doing the pull and not the stuck vehicle. Please see our rope calculator to determine what size you need.

When should you use a Kinetic Recovery Rope?

Use a kinetic recovery rope when you’re stuck in snow, mud, or sand. Exception: If your vehicle is buried to the axle in thick mud, a winch may be the better option to break suction.

When should you NOT use a Kinetic Recovery Rope?

If a slow, controlled pull is needed, such as preventing further damage to a vehicle, use a winch instead.

How to use a Kinetic Recovery Rope?

Attach the rope only to rated shackles (soft or hard). Do not loop the rope over itself. Always attempt to pull in the same direction the stuck vehicle is facing.

Where are Sandy Cats products manufactured?

We’re big believers in supporting American-made products, and whenever possible, we encourage you to do the same. That said, our ropes are made in China in an ISO-certified facility using the same (or better) materials as U.S.-made ropes. The difference? We don’t believe life-saving gear should be out of reach. The same factory that produces our ropes has supplied gear for military, search and rescue (SAR), and even space travel missions worldwide. Our ropes are CERTEX-tested in California to meet the highest performance standards, and because we stand behind them 100%, we back them with a lifetime warranty under proper use, within published service life, because when you're stuck, the last thing you should worry about is your gear. We keep our prices lower not by cutting corners, but because we believe safety should be accessible. Whether you’re commuting through a snowstorm, off-roading in the backcountry, or recovering a buddy from a sketchy situation, we want to make sure you can afford the right gear without putting yourself in jeopardy. Support American jobs, support American products. But if you need a kinetic rope and this economy has you watching every dollar, we’re here to make sure you get home safely. Oh, and while some companies like to play word games with "Made in the USA," we’ll just say this: We’re based in the U.S., for real. Stop by our shop if you’re in the area!
