Recovery Kits

Every piece in these kits does more than one job. That's how the owner designs recovery gear. Pick the kit for the pulls you expect, then pick the rope size by the loaded weight of the vehicle doing the pulling.

Questions people ask before they buy a kit

Which recovery kit do I need?

Standard covers a basic kinetic pull: rope, two soft shackles and a bag. Ultimate adds a Hitch Hero, which rigs to a 2 inch receiver, an A-arm, a frame or wherever you can get creative when a truck has no recovery point. Titan adds a static bridle, a Hero bridle, a pulley and two D-rings, so you can rig to trees, frames and control arms, split the load across two points, set up a winch redirect, and use the bridles as short tow straps in rocks and tight spaces. Titan Pro, coming this winter, adds two straps. The tow strap is for a three-truck tow: the dead rig in the middle, one truck in front doing the pulling and one behind doing the braking. The snatch strap is for pulls on rock crawling trails.

What size rope do I need?

Size the rope to your rig, the one doing the pulling, not the one that's stuck. Go by its loaded weight: the truck plus fuel, passengers, gear, a camper and anything else you carry, not the empty curb weight. A kinetic rope works by stretching under the truck that's pulling on it, so a rope that's too big for your rig won't stretch and one that's too small gets overloaded. The stuck vehicle can be heavier or lighter than yours and your rope size stays the same. The chart above has the weight range for each size. Over 15,000 lb, look at the Heavy Duty line. Between sizes or not sure? The rope size calculator walks you through it.

What's different about the colored kits?

Same Ultimate kit in colored rope and shackles. Each color comes in one rope size, shown on its card above. The Sprinter kit comes in Brothers Tan and Backland Teal the same way.

What's the warranty?

Every kit carries a lifetime warranty under proper use, within the published service life. Ropes and shackles are retired after an overload or shock event. Used and cared for, they're good for 10 years when stored properly, shaded and out of the weather, and 5 years if they live exposed in a truck bed, on a bumper or on a roof rack. The full retirement rules are on the service life page.

Is the gear tested?

Every Kinetic-X rope and shackle is pull-tested to failure by an independent lab in California before we publish a rating. Every rope carries its production date on the tag, so you always know how old it is.

How fast does it ship?

Orders typically ship within 1-2 business days from Upland, California.
