Made For Outfits That Eat Gear

Short On Purpose

Most tow lines get wrecked by the other driver. They let the line go slack, then drive over it or drag it down the road. At 12 feet there is less line to go slack, so there is less to run over and less to drag. That came straight from a tow operator who runs one every week.

Rigged to mountain-rescue standards, not parking-lot standards.

Built For An Off-Road Tow Operator

We built the first one for an off-road tow operator. He was pulling rigs for miles at a time and kept chewing through straps and ropes, because on a long tow the line drags, and on pavement it drags worse. Under the sheath is 1/2 inch rope with a 29,000 lb minimum break, so if the sheath finally wears through, there is a lot of rope left under it.

Sheathed End To End

Our 8 foot Hero Bridle carries the metal-safe Hero sheath on the 18 inches in the center, which is all a bridle needs. This one wears it over the whole rope between the eyes, so there is no unprotected stretch to drag through, and the eyes are dipped like our kinetic ropes.

Three Jobs In One

A bridle does three jobs. It centers the pull on mountain passes and splits the load across two recovery points. It handles controlled pulls in tight, technical terrain, where rock rash and sharp-edged attachment points would chew up a strap. And the Hero Bridle works like a long soft shackle that wraps around metal edges, so you can pull from rims, A-arms, frames and other unusual points.

Static On Purpose

A bridle is your anchor, so it should not stretch, and it spends its life bent tight around shackles and recovery points. A kinetic bridle, like some brands sell, is stretchy nylon with a braided core inside a braided cover. Load that hard over a tight bend and the damage happens in the core, under the cover where you can't see it. On aggressive pulls the inner strands kink permanently and the bridle is done. Ours are UHMWPE, a fiber that holds its strength around a tight bend and doesn't stretch, so all the stretch stays in the kinetic rope where it belongs.

Same family: the 8' Hero Bridle for tight spots and short pulls, and the 20' Hero Bridle for wide rigs and reach.

12' Professional Bridle Questions

12' or the Hero Bridle?

Same 1/2" rope and the same 29,000 lb rating as the 1/2" Hero Bridle. The Hero Bridle carries its metal-safe sheath on the center, which is all a bridle needs. The 12' carries it eye to eye, for a line that gets dragged over rock and road every week.

Why only 12 feet?

Short on purpose. Most tow lines get wrecked by the other driver: they let the line go slack, then drive over it or drag it down the road. At 12 feet there is less line to go slack, so there is less to run over and less to drag.

Is it only for tow operators?

No. It's made for outfits that eat gear through normal use: tow operators, fleets, anyone dragging a line over rock and road every week. It does every job a bridle does, with the sheath on the whole length.

Can it run against metal?

Yes, along its whole length. The Hero sheath runs from eye to eye, so any part of it can bend around a frame, a control arm, a roll cage tube or a rim.

Can I tow with it?

Yes, that's the job it was built for. A 12 foot static line with a 29,000 lb minimum break, sheathed so it holds up to being dragged, and short so the driver behind has less slack to run over.

Why static and not kinetic?

The bridle is your anchor. If it stretches, the anchor moves, so a static bridle keeps the anchor points still and leaves all the stretch in the kinetic rope where it belongs. A kinetic bridle, like some brands sell, also kinks its inner strands on aggressive pulls, under the cover where you can't see it.

What's it rated for?

29,000 lb minimum break strength. Same 1/2" rope and the same rating as the 1/2" Hero Bridle.

What's the warranty, and how long does it last?

Lifetime warranty under proper use, within its published service life, which starts the day it's shipped. Ten years stored shaded and dry, five if it lives exposed on the rig. The full rules and the claim process are on the Warranty and Service Life page.

When do I retire it?

Run your hand down the whole length after a hard job. It should feel the same end to end. If a section feels kinked, flat-spotted or too stiff under the sheath, or the sheath is worn through and the rope under it is cut, it's done.
